The charges were filed before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja against Mohd Shakeel, Zia-ur-Rehman, Saquib Nissar, Mohd Saif and Zeeshan. The next date of hearing is Dec 20.

Zia-ur-Rehman, Saqib Nissar and Mohammad Shakeel were arrested from Batla House in Jamia Nagar. They are natives of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh.

Mohd Saif and Zeeshan were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell on Sep 19.

The accused have not been charged for murder as there was no casualty in the GK-1 blast.

The police alleged that Atif Ameen, the alleged leader of the Indian Mujahideen, and Zunaid planted the bomb in the south Delhi market. Ameen and Mohammed Sajid were gunned down in a gunbattle with the police in Jamia Nagar, while Zunaid is still absconding, the police said.

The first charge sheet in the Delhi serial blasts was filed Wednesday by the police for Karol Bagh blasts.

The police said investigations revealed that 22 people were involved in carrying out the serial blasts in the capital.

Twelve of the accused are still to be traced, the police said, adding that one accused, Mohammed Mansoor Peerbhoy, is in the custody of Mumbai Police.

The police told the court that they would file a supplementary charge sheet later against two accused – Sadique Sheikh, an alleged co-founder of Indian Mujahideen, and Quamuddin – who were arrested two days after the serial blasts.

Sadiq Sheikh was arrested in Mumbai while Quamuddin was arrested in Ujjain.

Ten days later, another alleged bomber Arif Qadir was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police. Some of the absconding members of the module were identified as Shadaab alias Malik, Shehzaad alias Pappu, Salman, Ariz Khan, Mohammad Sajid and Mohammad Khalid.

The charge sheet refers to the involvement of this module also in the serial blasts at Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad and the fact that they procured the explosives for the Delhi blasts from Karnataka.
