Baghdad : The death toll from a suicide bomb explosion in central Baghdad on Friday morning rose to 35 with 75 others injured, an Interior Ministry source said.
“Our latest report said that up to 35 people were killed and some 75 others wounded in the blast,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
“A woman wearing an explosive vest blew herself up at the crowded popular market of Soug al-Ghazil, killing 35 people and wounding 75 others,” the source said.
Earlier, the source put the toll at eight killed and 15 others wounded.
The Soug al-Ghazil popular market was attacked several times in the past.
On Nov. 24, 2007, the U.S. military blamed the Iranian-backed Shiite militant groups for a bomb attack in the Soug al-Ghazil popular market that killed 13 people and wounded 57 others.
Sporadic attacks continue in Baghdad, dealing a setback blow on the security in the capital after a relative lull of violence as a result of a U.S. military surge.
