A NAM declaration denounced the Tel Aviv delegate’s false accusations against the movement, including that it supports terrorism and its actions are motivated by political aversion toward the Israeli State.

Signed by Cuban Ambassador Rodrigo Malmierca, president of the NAM Coordination Bureau, the document said the movement was unable to respond immediately because it was not allowed to participate in that Security Council debate.

However, the truth should and will be told to be properly clarified, Malmierca stated.

As president of the Coordination Bureau, composed of 118 sovereign States, I strongly reject those fallacious and provocative statements by Israel, the ambassador said.

He also said that the Israeli diplomat is again trying to create a smokescreen to distract attention from the real issues, and distort and hide the facts, cruelly evident to all.

The Israeli government representative is totally wrong if he thinks that distorting the NAM positions about the Middle East will stop the movement from making them public at all international forums, said Malmierca.

NAM will continue expressing its strong opposition to the illegal Israeli occupation, and its support to establishment of an independent Palestinian State in all the occupied territories, with East Jerusalem as the capital.

We will proceed with the denunciation of Israel’s lack of respect for international law, as the main obstacle to successful efforts to reach lasting and integral peace, and to the demand of total withdrawal from the Syrian Golan, he said.

Malmierca also asserted that NAM will not remain silent, faced with the implacable Israeli aggressions and serious violations of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.

Instead of ridiculing and distorting the NAM positions, the Israeli government should concentrate on showing a real commitment, not only with words and rhetoric, but also with genuine actions to make progress in the peace process, he said.

The Cuban ambassador requested that the Security Council president publish the declaration as an official document of the top UN authority.
