Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Saturday said that she would recommend a ban on A.K. Ramanujan’s work on Ramayana if it “contains distorted material”.
“If it is true that this book contains distorted material, I am with the protestors,” she told a press conference here.
The remarks came a day after a group of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders staged a protest in Kanpur demanding a ban on the work saying it portrayed Sita as Ranana’s daughter.
“I am going to write to the central government to ban such a book if it hurts the religious sentiments of any community,” Mayawati said.
