Formula 1 head Bernie Eccelstone has said Melbourne could lose the event to the other countries unless sponsorship money and television audiences increased. Ecclestone has also complained that local authorities were not keen on motor racing.

“When you look at other Grand Prix around the world – in China, Dubai and Malaysia – they don’t get anything like the attendances we get in Melbourne,” Walker said. “This will just blow over and negotiations will take place in a normal fashion.”
