“My daughter is absolutely safe and sound, and such reports will only spark more trouble and more violence,” Nirupam, the party spokesperson, told IANS.

Reports about the supposed attack surfaced soon after some 500 activists of Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which is engaged in a campaign against north Indians in the state, staged a noisy protest outside the Nirupam’s Andheri East office.

Nirupam, who hails from Bihar and for years was with the Shiv Sena, said the demonstration was peaceful and the police rounded up most of the protestors. He added that he was planning a counter-protest outside the MNS office.
