In a lengthy press release, the Tamil Nadu chief minister asserted that his government had “curbed extremist activity through sustained action and ensured that evil forces (like) the LTTE had been prevented from developing roots” in the state.

“So far 84 people attempting to indulge in these acts (of terror) have been arrested and 13 cases filed against them,” he said.

“Forty suspects including 17 Sri Lankan Tamils have been detained under the National Security Act. Seven and a half tonnes of iron ball bearings, 4 tonnes of aluminium ingots and several vehicles have been seized.

“The Tigers’ intelligence operative Thambidurai Parameshwaran and seven of his accomplices have been arrested due to the diligence of the (state) police who also confiscated a Travera car and Rs.478,290 from them,” Karunanidhi pointed out.

“Indian defence forces with the help of two naval vessels have prevented foreigners from infiltrating into our midst by constant vigil,” the chief minister added.
