According to Roberto Scarpinato who is a Palermo-based prosecutor, the assets of the Mafia in Germany are hovering in the hundreds of millions of euros.

He conceded that there are no exact numbers available in terms of the Mafia’s overall investments in Germany.

Scarpinato pointed out that the Mafia had begun to shift its assets from Italy to Germany almost 39 years ago after a law was passed in Italy which allowed authorities to confiscate Mafia property on a mere suspicion.

A major portion of Mafia investments are in real estates and government bonds, the Italian judicial official added.

Scarpinato is presently working in the anti-Mafia-unit of Palermo.
