“Taliban facilitators” held in Afghanistan

Kabul : The US-led coalition troops said they, in cooperation with the Afghan police, have arrested three suspected Taliban militants during a night patrol in southeastern Afghanistan last night.

A statement from the coalition forces’ main Bagram base here said the men were involved in facilitating improvised explosive device attacks. They were apprehended in Bermal district of Paktika province, bordering the neighbouring Pakistan.

The Afghan police searched a pick-up truck and recovered rocket-propelled-grenades, mortars and blasting caps from it. The Afghan police also found three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), each consisting of a 107 mm rocket and an anti-tank mine near a bridge.

The statement said three people, who were allegedly involved in facilitating the Taliban militants, were arrested from the area. They are presently being investigated.
