Berlin : Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday reiterated demands for a full membership in the European Union, saying there was “no other alternative.”
Speaking at the Munich security conference in Munich, Erdogan rejected calls for a privileged partnership between the EU and Turkey.
“I don’t find this term (privileged partnership) in the rules of the EU,” said Erdogan.
“One should not change the rules in the middle of the game,” the prime minister added, warning of delaying Ankara’s EU bid.
Erdogan pointed to step up political and economic efforts to meet the EU criteria for a full membership.
The Turkish leader officially opened the 44th Munich Conference on Security Policy, titled ‘A World in Disarray’.
The high profile security conference which is widely seen as the top annual gathering of political movers and shakers on global strategic issues.
