Doha : Qatar is hosting, between February 17-19, the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition (DIMDEX- Doha 2008) which is the first dedicated maritime defense exhibition to serve the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) with some 55 countries taking part.
It is sponsored by the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces (QENF).
Meanwhile QENF Commander Lieutenant General Mohammad Bin Nasser Al-Mohannadi, who heads the exhibition’s organizing committee, said in a press conference several issues would be dealt with during the event specifically the latest technological developments in the naval field along with the challenges faced by the MENA area.
He added the DIMDEX event is expected to match the successful IMDEX Asia event, which is a biennial event including an exhibition and warship display.
More than 100 companies are due to take part in DIMDEX Doha, including the USA, Germany, Sweden, France and the UK among other countries specializing in building navy warships.
Invitations have already been sent to navy commanders throughout the world to attend the event.
