“Right now, Jammu and Kashmir is the state known best for infiltration and activities of extremist forces,” the AIADMK leader said, adding, “The day is not very far when Tamil Nadu will become the leading state in this respect too.”

She claimed that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s policies have “converted Tamil Nadu into a forest of arms”.

Saying that the “minority” DMK government was “responsible for the deteriorating law and order” in the state, the AIADMK chief pointed out that the weapons theft that took place in the Adhiyamankottai police station in Dharmapuri district on Feb 9 was due to the government’s “encouragement” to banned outfits.

Maoists laid siege to the Adhiyamankottai police station in the early hours of Feb 9, threatened a sub-inspector, two head constables and several other policemen present in the premises, and ran away with four police guns, six revolvers, bayonet and a walkie-talkie.

“Whether it is the LTTE, or Maoists, all of them have more freedom now to operate in the state… the policemen (in Dharampuri) did not resist (the attack)… maybe they thought, why should we risk our lives and limbs if the policy is to allow them to operate, and, in addition, incur the chief minister’s displeasure as well,” Jayalalitha said in a statement.

Karunanidhi did not “care for the nation, the constitution and for national integrity”, Jayalalitha alleged. Had he done, he “would not have sung an eulogy for an extremist like S.P. Tamilselvam of the LTTE”, she said.

Jayalalitha urged the union government to impose president’s rule in the state “to protect the people of Tamil Nadu” and put an end to the “culture of violence”.

Meanwhile, the government has beefed up security in districts bordering Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, in view of the looting of arms from the Adhiyamankottai police station.
