A Spokesman of the Defense Ministry Laurent Teissiere revealed that the French forces “transported munitions from Libya and other countries to Chad’s army” during a rebellion that was witnessed there earlier this month.

He added that the weapons France helped deliver “were of the same nature as those of the Chadian army”.

He noted that “There were Libyan munitions that were transported for use by the Chadian army in the framework of general support given to the Chadian authorities by the international community”.

France has 1,400 soldiers based in Chad, as well as aircraft. France also has a technical, logistical and information agreement with the Chadian government but has no agreement to intervene directly in combat.

France denies its troops have had any role in the fighting, except to repel attacks on columns transporting refugees.

France also withdrew its Mirage F1 fighters to a safer area in Gabon.
