Gaza : The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) expressed willingness to weight any proposals that may contribute to stopping Israel’s mounting hostility against the Gaza Strip, which is under attacks and blockaded.
Former Palestine Minister Ismail Haniyeh said in a communiqué that Hamas is willing to “study any project or initiative to stop the deterioration of the situation” in that region of the Palestinian Autonomy.
The press release added that the proposals must guarantee Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories, an immediate end to the attacks and recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people, which have been subjugated since the Six-Day War in 1967.
One of Haniyeh’s aides, Ahmed Yousef, said a long-term truce might be possible if restrictive measures, including the opening of border checkpoints and guaranteed movements between Gaza and the West Bank, are lifted.
For his part, ex Palestinian Interior Minister Said Siam said Hamas has proof, including emails, of the implication of Al Fatah members in a plot to assassinate Haniyeh when he was the head of government.
