“We have moved with an implementation plan, including the formation of a dedicated war room on poverty, similar to that articulated by President (Thabo Mbeki) in his recent state of the nation address,” Prime Minister of North West province Edna Molewa said Saturday.

During his address in Cape Town last week, President Mbeki announced that government has taken up a programme of identifying specific households and individuals in dire need and to take special measures to alleviate their plight.

The war room, which is to be a part of the War Against Poverty programme, aims at bringing together various government departments for a concerted poverty alleviation effort, Molewa said.

“The North West provincial government has designed integrated plans and programmes for addressing social transformation matters in a coherent and holistic manner,” the prime minister said.
