The police said Chitra Sharma was found dead in the bathroom of their Rohini sector-11 home by her four-year-old daughter Radhika when she returned from school around 12.30 p.m.

Radhika found her mother unconscious and started screaming. Neighbours came to the house on hearing the screams and found Chitra dead.

The neighbours informed the police and the deceased’s husband Mukesh Sharma, who was in Faridabad. Their two-year-old twin sons were at home during the killing.

Police rushed her to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared her brought dead. Police said Chitra was stabbed thrice on her abdomen with a sharp knife, which was found at the spot.

A senior police official said there was no sign of a break-in.

“The victim’s neighbours told us that they saw a man entering the house on the pretext of checking the water meter and he was the last one who had entered the house,” the official told IANS. “We are trying to make a sketch of the man with the help of neighbours.”

The investigating officials are however puzzled as the gold ornaments on the victim’s body – earrings, chain and bangles – were found intact.

“There was no sign of any struggle, but the cupboards were found ransacked. We are probing the case from all possible angles,” the official said.
