Seúl : An American soldier is under investigation this Thursday after being accused yesterday of sexually abusing a nineteen-year old South Korean girl in Seoul, whom he met over the Internet, informed the Yonhap news agency.
He is one of the almost 37, 000 soldiers stationed on American bases in South Korea.
Kim Young Kyu, a spokesman for the Pentagon, said they are fully cooperating with the South Korean authorities in the investigation.
In Nov 2007, six American soldiers were detained by the police after beating a woman at a restaurant in the city of Daegoo, while another was arrested last January, accused of raping a South Korean woman.
More accusations are added by the Japanese news agency Kyodo, reporting that the police of the Okinawa prefecture requested the arrest of an American soldier suspected of rape, while the previous sexual assault is still being discussed.
The United States Army has maintained since 1945 dozens of bases there, occupying almost 20% of the Okinawa territory.
The rape of a twelve-year old girl by three American soldiers in 1995 provoked mass protests in this area.
