Afghan Blast Kills British Soldier

Kabul : One British soldier died and another was wounded when their vehicle activated a roadside bomb in Helmand, north of Sangin, south Afghanistan.

Military sources said in Kabul the soldiers belonged to the International Security Assistance Forces led by NATO. The ISAF report omits details on another soldier dead and a second wounded.

This fatality raised to 89 the amount of itish killed since the beginning of the US-led invasion out of the 7,800 British soldiers deployed, mostly in Helmand.

The ISAF also reported in the same province the death of alleged Afghan rebel commanders, mullahs Abdul Matin and Karim Agha, in another ISAF operation.

The US command informed of the arrest of 22 alleged rebels in two separate operations in Helmand and Zabul.

Several explosions have been reported lately in south Afghanistan, especially in the violent Kandahar, with a toll of 140 dead, but mortality reached 6,300 in 2007, regarded as bloodiest year since the US and its allies invaded and occupied Afghanistan.
