Jamuna Devi told reporters here that since the police had no right to lodge a first information report (FIR) directly in a case related to a caste certificate, she would send notice to all those concerned in the matter after consulting senior Supreme Court lawyer Vivek Tankha.

A police case was registered against Jamuna Devi Feb 13 for allegedly using fraudulent means to get her daughter admitted to a medical college and getting her a lecturer’s job at a medical college.

The case was registered on a complaint filed by Ram Singh Marawi of Harsud in Khandwa district six months ago. Marawi had alleged that Jamuna Devi, a former MP, got her daughter Hemlata admission in the MBBS course at the Indore Medical College under the Scheduled Tribe quota on the basis of a forged certificate in 1968. He said the certificate was used to get her a lecturer’s job in the same college in 1982.

Police probed the matter and a report was submitted to Indore Police Superintendent Anshuman Singh Yadav. On the basis of the report, the police filed the FIR at the Sanyogitaganj police station of Indore.
