The demand came as PPP members-elect from Balochistan met in Islamabad to discuss government formation in the province.

The PPP has not majority seats in Balochistan but is trying to win the support of independent members to form a coalition government with other parties to block the pro-Musharraf Muslim League-Q.

Muslim League-Q has won more seats in Balochistan and vows to form government.

The meeting demanded release of all political prisoners in Balochistan and said the PPP will work to give maximum provincial autonomy to the provinces.

“The PPP-P on behalf of the people of Pakistan apologizes to the people of the province of Balochistan for the atrocities and injustices committed against them,” a party statement said.

The party Co-Chairman Senator Asif Ali Zardari chaired the meeting and discussed the political situation in the province and the options available in the post election scenario in the province.

The meeting reiterated the demand for UN investigations into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Asif Zardari said Balochistan had suffered hugely in the past and the Party would do all it can to heal the wounds inflicted by the injustices of the past.

Zardari said that the Party had set up its own Election Monitoring Cell and asked the participants to agitate cases of rigging and electoral manipulation with the Election Commission of Pakistan and other legal forums through the Party’s Monitoring Cell.

Zardari also presided over the meeting of newly elected members from southern Sindh province and discussed formation of the government where the PPP has won majority seats.
