Pakistan President, PM condemn Rawalpindi suicide attack

Islamabad : President Pervez Musharraf and caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro Monday strongly condemned the suicide attack in Rawalpindi that killed the Surgeon General, Army Medical Corps, Lt. Gen. Mushtaq Ahmed Baig and several others and expressed the resolve to remain undeterred by such acts.

The President and the Prime Minister said such heinous acts of violence cannot deter the government from its resolve in continuing its fight against terrorism.

President Musharraf said the people, government, the law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces of the country remain committed to eliminate extremism and terrorism from the country.

The President spoke high of late General Mushtaq Ahmed Baig and described him as an exceptional officer of high calibre who showed remarkable commitment to serve the humanity.

The Prime Minister said the extremist elements involved in the acts of violence were damaging the cause of Islam and also spoiling the image of the country.

The Prime Minister directed the law enforcement agencies to step up security and increase vigilance to pre-empt the activities of the suspected elements.

The President and the Prime Minister expressed their grief and heartfelt condolence with the families of the deceased and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in peace and give courage to their families to bear the loss.—
