Cairo : The Arab League is scheduled to hold its 129th ministerial council session (foreign ministers) here on March 5-6.
To be held under Djibouti’s presidency, the session would be preceded by a meeting at the permanent representatives’ level on March 3-4, a league official said here Thursday.
At least 26 key items are listed on the agenda of the session dealing with a host of issues concerning joint Arab action, said the director of the league’s council affairs, Mohammad Al-Zaidi.
The secretariat completed all arrangements to hold the new round of the ministerial council, which is held every six months, said the official, noting that a draft agenda had been circulated among member states for review.
He said the ministers would also review two items concerning the draft agenda of the next Arab summit which is slated for Damascus later in the month and the Kuwait-hosted Arab economic summit next year.
Egypt also requested the ministers’ review on means to activate the role of civic society institutions in the service of joint Arab action, Al-Zaidi said.
Other articles include the regular report of the league’s secretary-general concerning the follow up of implementation of previous resolutions, he said.
The agenda includes an article on the Palestinain issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict and means to activate the Arab peace initiative and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Solidarity with Lebanon, pan Arab security and the situation in Iraq as well as Iran’s occupation of three UAE islands are also included on the session’s agenda, said the official.
He added that the Lockerbie issue and the US unilateral sancations against Syria would also be included.
Israeli armament and its dangers on the Arab national security would be also reviewed.
