Beijing : China confirmed a large Uranium deposit in the autonomous region of Interior Mongolia, enough for autonomous development of nuclear energy nationwide.
The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) did not reveal the total reserve found although it emphasized it is the biggest deposit of this strategic mineral ever discovered in this Asian nation.
China has 11 nuclear power stations, three of them operating with their own equipment, two of Russian technology, four French and two Canadian.
With the developing projects to build new electronuclear generators by 2020 the country will have installed capacity of 40 million kilowatts, equivalent to four percent of the total.
The CNNC, one of the China’s biggest firms, said the content of the uranium deposits is larger than the country’s demand.
It is not only enough to fulfill current needs but also pave the way for a solid base in the development of long-term nuclear energy, expressed a company’s executive.
Experts consider that China could still have uranium deposits which have not even been found, perhaps several million tons.
