The new ministers are all from the Congress, major partner of the coalition with People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor S.K. Sinha administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mula Ram, Abdul Gani Vakil, G.M. Saroori and Gharu Ram.

While Mula Ram and Abdul Gani Vakil were sworn in as cabinet ministers, the other two will hold the rank of ministers of state.

Since Congress had only three vacancies in its quota, one of its ministers – Prem Sagar Aziz, minister of state for finance and planning – resigned to make way for one of his new colleagues.

Tuesday’s is the last expansion of the council of ministers in the state before polls in Jammu and Kashmir are due in October this year.
