AMD President and Chief Operating Officer Dirk Meyer launched the facility, which is the firm’s fourth in India.

The new 30,000-sq ft centre will accommodate 450 R&D employees focusing on AMD’s graphics and computing solutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Meyer said India’s talented pool of engineering resources makes it one of the most important technology centres in the world.

“The inauguration of AMD’s fourth facility in India is recognition of the calibre of talent and design expertise that resides within the country,” he said.

Meyer also said AMD would focus on consumer electronics, graphics and micro-processing to expand its market in India.

He said the R&D team at Hyderabad would play a crucial role in very large scale integration (VLSI) and embedded system design for consumer electronics.

The AMD’s first facility here has been working on leading edge technology over the last four years.

Dasaradha Gude, vice-president and managing director of the Hyderabad R&D centre said it would also host AMD’s Centre of Excellence for Audio Technology and has designed multimedia products for leading companies in consumer electronics, including mobile phones, game consoles, LCD panels and TV tuner cards.

The centre has also made significant contributions to AMD’s latest graphics and computing processors, he said.
