Indian equities soar to new peaks

New Delhi : Key Indian share market indices scaled new peaks Friday with buying interest across sectors and the mood positive on account of a major public offering proposed by Reliance Power.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange opened on a positive note at 20,367.94 points and touched an all-time high of 20,607 points after an hour of trading.

The 30-share key index was trading at 20,545.41 points at noon, with a gain of 198.28 points, or 0.97 percent, over the previous close at 20,345.20 points.

Energy stocks were the flavour of the day, followed by metal and power stocks, while select shares of consumer durables and information technology slipped into the red.

The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange also scaled an all-time high and was ruling at 6,260.10 points, with a gain of 1.32 percent, over the previous close at 6,178.55 points.
