There would be no dialogue based on Kibaki’s conditions, a spokesman for the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) told BBC.

The ODM is relying on international mediators to resolve the power struggle in the East African country.

The opposition has also rejected the proposal of setting up a government of national unity as suggested by Attorney General Amos Wako.

Kibaki announced his willingness to take part in dialogue Thursday, but on the condition that all violence should end first.

Groups of demonstrators tried to make it into the centre of Nairobi Friday after a rally was prevented the previous day by a massive police presence with water cannon and tear gas.

The police and paramilitary troops once again cordoned off Uhuru Park where the original demonstration was planned for Thursday.

Demonstrations have been banned countrywide since Dec 27 election.

The opposition refuses to recognize Kibaki’s victory and international observers have also expressed doubts about the accuracy of the vote-count.

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Friday that he believed that Sunday’s controversial Kenyan elections were probably rigged.
