President of Indian Parliament in Cuba

Havana : Somnath Chatterjee, president of India’s Lok Sabha (House of Representatives), pondered the similarities between his country’s government and Cuba’s Monday, both being governments by the people and for the people.

Before a meeting with Cuban National Assembly President Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada, the Indian legislator told Prensa Latina he respected and admired the Cuban Revolution, and predicted eternal bilateral ties between both countries.

Chatterjee expressed gratitude to the Cuban National Assembly for his invitation and said he hopes to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations, peace and understanding.

He said lovers of freedom are prooud that Cuba is still making progress in different fields of national life, despite a lot of problems and obstacles.

The leader expressed interest in learning and exchanging with Cuban specialists and professionals.

Alarcon de Quesada recognized the efforts of India toward peace and progress.

Chatterjee arrived in Cuba for an official visit Sunday with several Indian deputies and he will meet with Cuban leaders, such as Vice President Carlos Lage and Foreign Affairs Minister Felipe Perez Roque, during this visit that lasts until January 10.

He will also tour the Latin American Medical School, the Center for Molecular Immunology, the High Performance Training School and the Varadero sea resort.
