Elections are set for February 18, which were earlier scheduled to be held on January 8th but were postponed after the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

The Election Commission said that its offices were burnt in southern Sindh province during violent protests after Bhutto’s murder and that it cannot hold elections on the previously set date.

“Any one who will create trouble, I have ordered the army and Rangers (paramilitary force), that we will shoot any one who will do anything of this sort,” the President said while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a flyover at Karachi.

“Army and rangers would be deployed in elections,” the President said.

He said he has asked the law enforcement agencies to ensure peaceful elections on February 18.

“Elections are to be held. There will be a new government after elections. We call the process free, fair and transparent elections. But I have added the word peaceful for elections,” Pervez Musharraf said.

The President indicated that he wants his economic policies to be continued after a new government is formed.

The President said the government will cope with the menace of terrorism and extremism in an effective manner.

He expressed the confidence that due to the measure taken by the government, such incidents would not occur.
