Talking to Barrister Shahida Jamil, Federal Minister for Women Development at PM Secretariat, Soomro expressed confidence that women, comprising half of the country’s population would cast their votes for a credible and meaningful mandate.

The government, he said, would continue to support and encourage active participation by women in all walks of life.

The Prime Minister said the role of women in the socio-economic development had been duly recognized by all societies around the globe.

He mentioned active participation of women in rural areas particularly in agricultural sector, and termed it equally significant for national economy.

The Prime Minister asked the minister to actively pursue programmes aimed at expanding opportunities for women in various fields of national economy.

He said policy decisions for the recruitment of women in federal government institutions needed to be properly publicized so that women could fully utilize these opportunities.

Barrister Jamil informed the Prime Minister that her ministry was persistently following programmes for the promotion of women’s participation in all spheres of national life.

She said since women represented 50 per cent of the total population of the country, the government would take all measures to encourage women voters to cast vote and participate actively in the forthcoming general election.

An awareness campaign, she said would soon be launched to achieve this objective.
