Paris : French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner is to host a working dinner January 22 for the parties that co-chaired the December 17 Palestinian aid conference in the French capital, it was officially announced here Friday.
The Foreign Ministry said that dinner will be attended by Tony Blair, the Quartet representative, and Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere and EU Commissioner for extrenal relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner.
The Paris Conference received about USD 7.6 billion in pledges for an emerging Palestinian state, but much of the success of such processes depends on the situation on the ground in the region and recent Israeli operations and Palestinian responses have jeopardized the fragile peace process started in Annapolis last November.
Separately, and ahead of the dinner next Tuesday, it was announced that Kouchner is to travel to Berlin for talks within the framework of the EU 3+3, which is working on a solution to the impasse with Iran over its nuclear program and specifically uranium enrichment.
While France supports fresh sanctions against Iran, other members of the group of “Six” are more reticent on this issue.
