Riyadh : The Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) secretariat has announced that Secretary-General Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has left Jeddah heading to the African continent on a tour that will include a number of West African member states.
The secretariat said in a press release Sunday that the tour will include Senegal, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Nigeria, Gabon and Cameroon.
The statement said that the aim of the visit is to look into the special Program for Development of Africa which the OIC decided to adopt in execution of the 10-year programme approved by the third extraordinary Islamic Summit that was held in Mecca in December 2005.
The statement said that Prof Ihsanoglu, during the nine-day tour, will have talks with the leaders of those countries and meet with Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade and senior Senegalese officials to review the ongoing preparations for hosting the 11th Islamic Summit which will be hosted by the Senegalese capital Dakar on March 13.
