“Internet crime is becoming even more sophisticated with targeted attacks,” said F-Secure in a statement here Monday.

Security specialists foresee that over the next five years, there will be a significant increase in e-criminal groups’ attacks from Central America, India, China and Africa.

They say Internet crime could become more prevalent as a result of the alignment between broadband penetration and socio-economic factors such as economic development and lack of IT employment opportunities.

F-Secure chief research officer Mikko Hyponen believes malware creation hotspots are driven by socio-economic causes such as lack of job opportunities.

“This is partly due to the limited IT job prospects in these markets. People are developing sophisticated computer skills but have limited opportunities to profit from them legally,” he says.
