Nairobi : Kenyan opposition Orange Democratic Movement, led by Raila Odinga, will not negotiate with the Kenyan government, but will take part in the mediation process led by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
The ODM decision was published Monday, reiterating its lack of interest in a bilateral understanding with the government of Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki, who was fraudulently re-elected last month.
Riots have taken place in Nairobi, the capital, and in southwest Kisumu since the election results were released, between followers of both parties and security forces, causing 700 deaths and nearly 250,000 displaced persons.
The ODM officially announced an end of street disputes, but three more people died today in Nairobi during confrontations provoked by post-electoral tension, said the police.
The government declared it was illegal for ODM to plan to boycott private and foreign enterprises linked to the Kenyan Executive.
Media in Nairobi said British Foreign Affairs Vice Minister Meg Munn notified the British Parliament that London does not recognize Kibaki as current Kenyan president.
Some British deputies proposed that the government of Prime Minister Gordon Brown take measures against Kenya, such as exclusion from the British Community of Nations (Commonwealth).
