Minsk : BHEL, the biggest Indian energy company, is interested in operating in the Belarusian market, says Indian Ambassador to Belarus Rajendra Kumar Tyagi.
He told a media here Tuesday on the occasion of India’s Republic Day that BHEL had operated in the Indian market for around 60 years.
”The company has all the necessary resources to enter the Belarusian market. At present, this issue is being discussed,” he added.
“Thus, BHEL may supply equipment for modernization of the Grodno electric power plant.”
He also disclosed that India was interested in purchasing Belarusian equipment worth hundreds of millions dollars.
According to him, recently Belarus had exported potash fertilizers to India and the bilateral trade was becoming diversified. Annually the total trade had increased by 20 to 25 per cent.
“We have extended the list of the goods which will be imported from Belarus. Mainly these are tip trucks, trucks and other machinery,” Rajendra Kumar Tyagi noted.
According to him, India has been advancing rapidly which means increased energy consumption.
“India has developed an ambitious programme on coal industry development. This programme means big opportunities for Belarusian companies in supplying super heavy duty tyres, dump trucks and mining equipment to India,” he added.
“These all can lead to multi-million purchases,” the ambassador noted.
According to him, Belarusian machinery can be used to implement the road construction programme in India. Around 120 billion USD were expected to be assigned for construction and renovation of Indian highways, railroads, seaports and other facilities.
The diplomat said the aggregate imports to India were around 300 billion USD a year. By 2010, this was expected to reach 600 billion USD.
“So, Belarusian exporters have a huge potential on the Indian market,” he said.
