Tehran : Visiting Senegalese Minister of Armed Forces Becaye Diop has conferred with Iran’s Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar on expansion of defence cooperation between the two countries.
The two ministers met during the first round of official talks between the two countries’ military officials Monday.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Defence Ministry, at the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interests and explored grounds for further expansion of constructive relations in defence, technical and industrial fields.
Expansion of cooperation with Islamic and independent countries mainly the African states are among principled policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Najjar said.
The second Iran-Senegal Economic Cooperation Council meeting indicated that the two sides’ leaders are determined to bolster ties in the economic and industrial sectors, he said.
Iran has always welcomed the constructive role of Senegal in restoring security and peace in west Africa, Najjar underlined.
Referring to Iran’s defence capabilities and potentials, he voiced the readiness of the Iranian Defence Ministry to meet the requirements of Senegal in various fields.
The Senegalese defence minister, for his part, voiced satisfaction with his visit to Iran and said ideological commonalties between the two countries have deepened ties between the two sides.
Lauding Iran’s support for and assistance to the Senegalese people and government, he said Senegal is ready to broaden all-out ties with Iran.
The Senegalese minister also conveyed the greetings of his country’s president, prime minister and nation to Iranian officials and nation and underlined that expansion of defence relations would help deepen mutual ties more than before.
The Senegal defence minister and his entourage arrived in Tehran on Sunday.
