Kuwait : Abdulkareem Hussein Sileem won municipal by-elections of the 1st constituency on Wednesday after garnering 1,961 votes, chairman of the committee supervising by-elections Justice Mishal Al-Juraiwi announced.
Justice Al-Juraiwi said up to 5,094 people cast their ballots out of 14,725 eligible voters, with Sileem winning out of 13 candidates.
Sileem, born in 1949, holds a PhD in the control systems’ engineering from the University of Toledo, US, obtained in 1984. He holds a masters degree in electrical engineering (control and communication systems).
He held the position of Communications Assistant Undersecretary in 1992-2005, headed the Department of Technical Affairs and the Planning and Development Sector. He was also a member of the faculty of Kuwait University’s Engineering College, a lecturer at the College of Administrative Affairs, and a co-researcher at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research.
Moreover, he was member of the follow-up committee for the implementation of the World Trade Organization Agreement and is also a member of Kuwait Engineering Society.
