The Nepalese government must present its demand to the UN.

The UN approved to establish UNMIN in this Himalayan state after November 21, 2006 Peace Agreement between the Nepalese government and NEPAL Maoist Communist Party (CPN-M) that put end to 10 years of armed struggle against the monarchy.

It was established on January 23, 2007 to monitor the process of disarmament of Maoist rebels and supervise preparations for constituent elections held last April 10 which CPN-M won.

After the Constituent Assembly was established along with the declaration of the Republic late in May the main parties of the country considered that UNMIN presence was already necessary.

However, a special commission created by CPN-M and the two other main parties The Unified Communist Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and the Nepalese Congress (NC) are still working on the elaboration of an amendment to satisfy the autonomy demand of several communities.

The three parties created a commission on Tuesday morning to write an additional amendment to the 22 modifications of the interim Constitution that should be approved by the Constituent Assembly to give way to the election of the top leaders of the country.
