Cairo : Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa expressed on Saturday his optimism that the awaited Lebanese cabinet would be formed within hours, saying that there were “serious indications” in this regard.
He clarified in a press release that talks being held on this matter were back on track and were headed toward a mutual agreement.
Moussa received and made intensive phone calls with several Arab and Lebanese parties of concern, noting that he sensed “real progress” towards forming Lebanon’s cabinet and expecting to wrap up this debate within hours.
Prime Minister-designate Fouad Al-Siniora conducted several negotiations with Lebanese political parties in a bid to form a new cabinet.
Lebanese political parties reached an agreement in the Qatari capital, Doha, paving the way for election of President Michel Suleiman and forming a 30-minister government that would be mandated with wording a fresh election law.
The Doha Accord specified that the parliamentary majority would have 16 seats in cabinet and the opposition would have a veto-wielding 11 seats. The remaining three ministers will be appointed by Suleiman
