The remains of the 38-year-old, who had been posted to Kabul this January and had been with the ITBP for 18 years, will be consigned to the flames in his village Daban in Mandi district.

He is survived by his wife Neera, son Lalit (13) and daughter Meenakshi (11), said Mandi’s deputy commissioner Onkar Sharma.

Roop Singh was the only breadwinner of the family and had lost his father last year.

The devastating attack on the Indian embassy also killed his ITBP colleague Ajai Pathania, Defence Attache R.D. Mehta and Press Counsellor V. Venkateswara Rao. Forty others died in the Monday morning attack on the Indian mission.
