Former Andhra minister passes away

Hyderabad : Congress legislator and former Andhra Pradesh minister Chanumolu Venkat Rao died here Tuesday after prolonged illness. He was 76.

Rao, who was admitted to hospital last month with multiple problems, is survived by three daughters and a son.

He was a five-time legislator from Mylavaram in Krishna district and twice served as state minister.

Born on Feb 10, 1932, Rao was first elected to the assembly in 1967. He was re-elected in 1972, 1979, 1986 and 2004. He also served as roads and buildings minister in J. Vengal Rao’s cabinet and agriculture minister in Kotla Vijaybhaskar Reddy’s ministry.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who is away on vacation in Maldives, has condoled the death. He said Rao’s death was a big loss to the party.
