Solve the root cause of discontent: J & K political parties

Jammu: Several political parties have unanimously condemned the killings during violent protests in the state following Amarnath Shrine land dispute. In a meeting organized by social activist Balraj Puri, the parties said the unprecedented popular upsurge should aim at removing the root cause of state’s discontent.

According to a press release issued by Puri on behalf of political parties including Samajwadi Party, CPI(M), CPI, Shiromani Akali Dal(Badal), Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar), Awami Jan Shakti Party, BSP, Minorities Forum and J&K Milchar Front, the parties expressed sympathy with the hardships which the people have gone through due to prolonged bandh and curfew.

While condemning the death of innocents they demanded adequate compensations to the bereaved families. They said the movement should be peaceful and nonviolent and all political parties and media should contribute creating an atmosphere of peace and harmony.

The unprecedented popular upsurge should aim at removing the root cause of Jammu’s discontent and concentrate on the constitutional safeguards for the region in all spheres including political, cultural and economic and empowerment of the people at the regional, districts and Panchayat levels. For this purpose it must seek the support of all religious and ethnic communities of Jammu, they said.

The signatories of the statement included Balraj Puri, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Ex-MP and president J&K Samajwadi Party, Comrade Om Prakash CPI(M), Prof. Zahuruddin of Jammu Minorities Forum and HS Raina, president of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).
