Lucknow : Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sri Prakash Jaiswal accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of not delivering justice to the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
“The government is still to provide relief to the victims of the riots and their families in the state as per the decision taken during the regime of the then UP (Uttar Pardesh) Governor Motilal Vora,” Jaiswal told reporters here Monday.
As per the agreement, a compensation of Rs.50,000 to Rs.100,000 was to be provided to the victims in lieu of their property losses, he added.
Earlier, Jaiswal led a delegation of members of the Sikh community to Governor T.V. Rajeswar and asked him to intervene and ensure disbursement of the compensation at the earliest.
Thousands of Sikhs were targeted and killed across the country after two Sikh bodyguards assassinated then prime minister Indira Gandhi.
