The decision was made in a meeting of the four LF parties: the Communist Marxist Party of India (CPI-M), Communist Party of India, Revolutionary Socialist Party and the All India Forward Block (FB).

A member of the CPI-M Central Committee said a meeting with the president, Pratibha Patil, was requested for Wednesday so as to present her with the letter where the withdrawal is made official.

The LF made the decision after many warnings and the announcement of Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, that he will soon request approval from the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) for the nuclear pact with Washington.

The Economic Times, Indian journal, reports today the IAEO will meet in 20 days to approve the specific security guarantees for India.

Singh’s announcement violates the agreement between the UPA and the Left Front, states a letter where the four parties’ leaders answer the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pranab Mukherjee.

The Left Front parties had decided that if the government proceeded, they would withdraw their support. “Given the Prime Minister’s announcement, the time has come”, stresses the letter to Mukherjee.
