Syrian President: just and comprehensive peace will achieve security in Mideast

Damascus : Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday held discussion with a Romanian parliamentary delegation on the role of parliamentarisns in bolstering bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting with the visitors headed by Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee at the Romanian Chamber of Deputies Stefan Glavan also touches on developing Arab-European relations.

During the meeting, President al-Assad gave a detailed explanation of the situation and recent developments in the Middle East, affirming that establishing just and comprehensive peace will achieve permanent security and stability in the region.

For their part, the Romanian delegation stressed Syria’s pivotal role in solving the region’s issues, underlining the Syrian efforts for achieving peace.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee at the People’s Assembly Suleiman Haddad and the Romanian Ambassador in Damascus.

In a statement to SANA, Mr. Glavan described his meeting with President al-Assad as “positive and very productive,” affirming the importance of Syria’s regional role.

“Syria is the most important country in the region, and its role in it is pivotal,” said Glavan, underlining the development in bilateral relations between Syria and Romania and affirming his country’s support to achieving just and comprehensive peace in the region according to international legitimacy resolutions.

Meanwhile, head of the Arab League’s Mission in PARIS, Dr. Nassif Hitti Tuesday stressed the importance of President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to France due to the important and essential position of Syria and France in the Middle East issues.

In a statement to SANA, Dr. Hitti pointed out to the importance of restoring warm relations between Syria and France due to their essential role in the ME region.

He added that Syria, as the head of the Arab Summit, has a responsibility and essential role regarding the ME issues, especially the peace process in order to realize the just and comprehensive peace in the ME based on the land- for- peace principle and Arab peace initiative adopted by Beirut Arab Summit.

He said that France is interested in having an active role in the peace process in the ME, adding that there is a special interest also from French President Nicolas Sarkozy regarding this file.

President Sarkozy has invited President al Assad to attend the “Bastille Day” celebrations in Paris on July 14.
