Details about talks between President Karzai and the would-be US president were not released to media. However, officials said the two leaders discussed the political and security situation in Afghanistan and the region.

It was also not disclosed what would be Obama’s next destination. The US presidential hopeful had arrived on a surprise visit in Afghanistan on Saturday.

During his stay, he visited Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nangarhar, bordering Pakistan. He met the provincial Governor Gul Agha Sherzai and officers of the coalition troops.

The coalition jets had killed 47 civilians in the province last week. The same week, an attack was launched on an ISAF outpost in the same zone killing nine soldiers.

Obama, along with two other senators, Jack Reed and Chuck Hagel, visited the US Bagram Air Field and met the US soldiers there.

On this occasion, tough security measures were adopted inside the fortified Afghan capital. Police and army soldiers were deployed on all squares and entry and exit points to the city, while a helicopter was also seen hovering in the air.

Barack Obama visit to Afghanistan came on the heel of his criticism of the Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Obama had said Karzai was unable to come out of his bunker.

He was also quoted as saying that there were still a lot of problems in Afghanistan.
