The Raj Bhasha Karamchari Sangh (employees’ union of the Department) held a meeting in Patna on 21st July 2008 under the chairmanship of union president Iqbal Hayat to express its anger and dissatisfaction on the continued ignorance of the union’s demands by the present JD (U)-led state government.

The union decided that its delegation will meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Chief Secretary of the state to apprise them of their conditions. The delegation will also meet Muslim political leaders and heads of Muslim organizations. The delegation will request them to put pressure on the government for speedy fulfillment of their demands.

In the recent past the union met the chief minister and presented him with the list of its demands which included finalization of mechanism for promotion of the employees of the Department and empowerment of the Urdu Directorate, Rajbhasa Department’s Urdu wing.

The union has reminded the chief minister of his promise in that meeting that the union’s demands will be fulfilled, but there has not been any action by the government in this regard.

The union also expressed its anguish that the Urdu Directorate has not yet taken any action on the issue of arbitrary transfer of the Directorate’s employees in June 2008, which was completely against the pattern usually followed in transfer at government departments. The union has demanded an enquiry into this case.

Two weeks ago the union had requested the Secretary of the Rajbhasha Department to fix time for talks between the Union and the Department, but there has not been any reply from him.

The union has warned that if the government doesn’t take any action on the above mentioned issues within a month then it will organize a big dharna (sit-in).
