Mumbai : The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police Sunday started investigations into a foreign national’s claim that his email account was hacked to send a mail in the name of the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen minutes before the Ahmedabad blasts.
Police Commissioner Ramrao Wagh of Navi Mumbai, where the foreign national lives, told IANS that the entire case was being handled by the ATS and the local police were giving them full assistance to probe the matter.
The ATS carried out a search of the 15th floor flat owned by Abhishek Sharma in Gunina Apartments on Palm Beach Road, one of the upmarket localities of Sanpada suburb in Navi Mumbai.
Sharma had rented it to the foreign national, identified as Callis Q, 48, who has been living there for the past six months.
“I am not aware if the foreigner has been arrested. I do not know what he has informed the ATS,” Wagh said.
The Indian Mujaheedin had sent an email to media organisations minutes before the Ahmedabad blasts, claiming responsibility for the terror attack which has claimed 45 lives.
Meanwhile, security was beefed up outside public hospitals and shopping malls in the city following Saturday’s serial blasts in Ahmedabad, a police official said.
The city police were already in a state of high alert since Friday’s serial bomb explosions in Bangalore. Police in other major cities in Maharashtra like Thane, Nagpur, Pune and Aurangabad have also been placed on high alert.
Additional security measures for hospitals and malls were in view of terrorist attacks on hospitals in Ahmedabad.
In a related development, Mumbai Police’s dog squad combed the premises of the Bennet Coleman & Company Ltd at its headquarters in south Mumbai following a hoax call Sunday afternoon.
According to police control room, the squad went there after an unknown caller called to say the building would be blown up.
“Our dog squad checked the entire building premises but found nothing,” a police official said.
