Dion sent a letter to the Canadian conservative leader on Wednesday, with the purpose to demand the return of Omar Khadr, original from Toronto, Canada.

Khadr was arrested and sent to Guantanamo in October 2003, under the category of “enemy fighter,” given by the White House to justify his confinement.

“You should do as much as possible for Khadr’s comeback, the only possible choice for his rights to be respected,” said Dion.

“When you refuse to act, you will be saying that Canada accepts trying Canadian citizens on the basis of secret evidence, obtained after practicing torture,” Dion said in his letter to Harper.

The demand was enclosed with the request by the Canadian public opinion, demanding Harper the repatriation of the prisoner from Guantanamo.

“Bring him back home, Mister Harper,” demanded the local media recently, including Canadian newspaper The Gazette.

However, the Canadian Prime Minister disregards interceding on Khadr’s behalf.

Khadr was 15 years old when he was captured in Afghanistan in 2002, and is considered by the Pentagon responsible of the death of a US soldier.

The Canadian prisoner is the only western prisoner in Guantanamo, where he was confined without a previous trial against him.
