Washington : The team of Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain tries to defame his rival Barack Obama with tactics used by President George W. Bush.
The New York Times says McCain’s new strategy shows tactics of ex pupils of Karl Rove, ex aide of Bush that resigned amid scandal for manipulation and misuse of intelligence.
The paper says McCain promised he would not use unlawful attacks but forgot his promises when the possibilities to loose were pretty narrow.
So his advisors questioned Obama’s patriotism for cancelling a visit to an US military hospital in Germany, says The Washington Post.
A source close to McCain admitted that the goal is to picture their rival as a coward, more interested in his image that the ill soldiers.
The Republicans also try to present their Democratic rival as prone to higher taxation and blame him for the rising oil prices, adds The NYT.
“Many voters wonder if McCain as president would extend Bush’s disastrous terms. If his drive were the reference, there would be no need to wait until January to know,” concludes the paper.
